With diesel already more than £5 a gallon and petrol approaching that figure, cutting back on fuel use not only makes good sense for the planet but also for your pocket. Driving at 60mph rather than 70mph uses nine per cent less fuel while at 50mph you save 15 per cent. And driving in as high a gear as possible also cuts the revs and the CO2 your car produces.
