Only days remain to sign up for the Epilepsy Action 10k run, which takes place next weekend.

Health and fitness firms have pledged their support to the Yeadon-based national charity’s event this year.

Manningham Lane company Sovereign Health Care, which provides cash plans to people with health bills, is supporting the charity run for the second time, this time giving a lump sum of £10,000.

Company chief executive Russ Piper described the run as a “fantastic event for Bradford”.

He said: “We’re very proud of our longstanding relationship with Epilepsy Action – the work they do for people with epilepsy is invaluable.”

And the Greens Health and Fitness gym, in Baildon, will give prizes in all 12 runner categories, which include male, female and veteran.

Staff members at both companies will take on the 10k challenge.

Amanda Welsh, general manager at the gym, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the race this year. We have a few club members participating and one of our personal trainers, Steve Ling, will be running and has set himself a target of 50 minutes.”

The road race on Sunday will see runners start and finish in Centenary Square, following the route down Canal Road towards Frizinghall and back Entry costs £16 or £14 for runners affiliated to a UK athletics running club.

The Airedale Athletics squad is also supporting the race.

Katie Stocks, fundraising officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “We are really grateful to Sovereign Health Care and Greens for supporting the Bradford 10k this year.

“The money donated by Sovereign is a fantastic boost to the event and will be a big help towards our ultimate aim of supporting people with epilepsy.

“Greens have donated some fantastic prizes and the pre-race warm-up will help motivate our runners so they’re able to make it to the finish line.”
