A community health service is calling on the people of Bradford to show their support with a vote after being shortlisted in a national awards ceremony.
Seniors Show the Way, a service that supports people aged 50 and over to spread positive health messages in an informal way, is one of 16 projects that form the Altogether Better Programme, which has been nominated at The National Lottery Awards 2011.
Altogether Better is one of only ten projects to make it through to the semi-finals in the ‘Best Health Project’ category.
After being shortlisted from more than 800 applicants across the country, the project now needs local votes to ensure its place in the grand final and be in with a chance of scooping a £2,000 cash prize. Seniors Show the Way, delivered by Bradford District Care Trust, has 900 volunteer community health champions across Bradford encouraging communities to stay active and healthy.
Catherine Pitts, team co-ordinator at Seniors Show the Way, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be part of a nomination that has reached the semi-finals of The National Lottery Awards.
“Our service works hard to benefit the community and our community health champions have been doing a sterling job of spreading positive health messages in Bradford."
The winning project will be announced in early November on a star-studded television programme. Voting ends at midday on Monday, June 20.
Register your vote for free at: lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards or call the nomination’s dedicated phone line on 0844 836 9700. Calls will cost no more than 5p from a BT landline.
