Airedale Hospital is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year by inviting the public to an open event.
The event, organised by Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, on Thursday, September 2, is a chance for people to get to know the hospital and its staff, and take a closer look behind the scenes.
It takes place in the hospital’s Education Centre and a marquee outside. It is open from 3pm to 7pm and includes the Trust’s annual meeting from 6pm to 7pm in the Lecture Theatre in the Education Centre.
Visitors will have the chance to see a demonstration of the Trust’s home-based telemedicine system, together with some of the design work on new safer medicine trolleys. They will also be able to learn about how the hospital diagnoses disease and decides on the best treatments for patients, particularly through its work with endoscopy and cancer screening programmes.
People can sign up for tours of the hospital’s kitchens, laundry, physiotherapy and outpatient departments.
Free advice will be available to those thinking of a career in the NHS.
There will also be a room dedicated to young people’s health.
Two rooms are hosting children’s activities where youngsters can try out plastering with the hospital’s accident and emergency nurses, or have a go on a mini-gym.
There will also be an emergency vehicles display.
Other stands include infection prevention, the local bowel cancer screening programme, radiology and X-rays, audiology, information on dementia and the Trust’s Room for Dignity, midwifery and diabetes.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet some of their Foundation Trust governors and become members of the Trust. There will be a free prize draw with prizes including a DVD player, barbecue, supermarket vouchers and much more.
Parking is free for those attending the event and free food and refreshments will be provided.
