SIR – Because there has been a 0.2 per cent fall in the prices manufacturers charge, the Office of National Statistics claim it offered fresh hope for hard-pressed households (T&A, June 9).
Come off it!
A penny reduction in every five pounds will be about as effective as a garden hose at a mill blaze.
