SIR – Re all the latest palaver over the fate of the Odeon. The T&A (February 14) carried the headline ‘Blot on the landscape’. Well I never, Tom Sharpe could not have expressed it better.
When is a final decision going to be forthcoming over this issue? How much money has been spent on this building, which is on death row?
The latest farce is that a huge amount of money is to go on repairs to the roof to prevent water damage to the steelwork. The steelwork of the building is probably of wrought or cast iron which does not corrode.
I have a suggestion to make. I am in possession of a redundant pair of size nine workboots which are tailor-made for ‘kicking backside’. I will gladly donate said boots if they will help to resolve this issue once and for all.
Failing all else, I will send a few of the lads down from up my end who will knock the damn thing down in an afternoon, using their heads.
