Delivery offices closure is dreadful

SIR – The shock news that the Royal Mail is to close three delivery offices (T&A, February 14) is quite dreadful. They are all located within the Shipley constituency and leave not only the 67,000 electors but also the full constituency population, perhaps as many as 80,000 bereft of local contact with a delivery office.

Residents in Lower Morton Lane, Crossflatts, have a 7.7-mile one-way journey to collect undelivered letters and parcels from Inkersley Road, Bradford. This location took much finding, but it turns out to be what I have always regarded as the central sorting and mail delivery office in Bradford, near Forster Square Railway Station.

For the benefit of readers the postcode of Inkersley Road is BD1 4RS, which should be useful when trying to discover the route and distance from their homes.

I hope our MP and councillors in Shipley are going to mount a campaign and petition to stop this wanton destruction of local mail services. At the very least the Shipley office should remain open for collection of undelivered mail.
