SIR – About 18 months ago, I asked Bradford Highways Department to consider putting a short time delay, say ten to 15 seconds on the lights at Four Lane Ends junction before they turn to green, to enable people to cross.
This is a very busy road, and you literally take your life in your hands getting across this road. Their reply was: “Oh, no! There is no money available at this time for such measures.”
Imagine my surprise when new traffic lights were installed last week, with a new filter light to enable traffic to turn right.
Obviously there is money for car users, but not for the safety of pedestrians. And might I add, this junction is near an elderly people’s housing complex, so you can imagine the difficulty they have trying to cross.
