SIR – I am writing on behalf of my sister, Mavis Driver, and myself to thank every member of the team on Ward 5 (Stroke Unit), Airedale General Hospital.
Over the Christmas period and into the New Year, our mum, Doris Booth, was a patient on Ward 5. She was doing really well, but following a second stroke, she was deeply unconscious for the last week of her life. My sister and I stayed with her constantly throughout that week and we both experienced nursing in its truest form.
It is so easy for people to put pen to paper when they are upset about something, but the world would be a better place if praise and gratitude was given where it is so deserved. Every member of staff showed compassion and gentleness in everything they did and we also saw the odd tear more than once – which is so wonderful and so natural from dedicated nurses.
For my sister and I the last week spent with mum was a very special time we will never forget, nor will we ever forget the tender loving care given by the angels in uniform on Ward 5.
