As a lifelong anti-fascist, I am disgusted at the way vandals have scrawled slogans over the cricket stands in Roberts Park. The term “mindless” is often used in too facile a manner these days, but this action was truly mindless.
It is certainly not any kind of anti-fascism.
Why target a cricket ground and a park where local people like to have rest and recreation? And what’s Goose Green got to do with it?
All praise to Bradford Council for acting promptly to remove this vandalism. It will presumably have a financial cost for an already cash-strapped council.
If anyone will open a fund to reimburse the powers that be, as a pensioner I’d be happy to add my few pence to it.
I had a cousin who went to Spain to fight Franco’s fascists, and went on to fight against the Japanese in Burma. Another died when his Beaufighter was shot down over the North Sea.
To equate their life-and-death struggle with such graffiti is not merely a travesty, it is a blasphemy against their memory.
