SIR – We have just been to see this year’s panto at the Alhambra with Billy Pearce and have been highly entertained by Billy and the excellent supporting cast.
The theatre, as you would expect, was made up mostly of children who sang, clapped, laughed and shouted and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. These children were all colours, creeds, abilities and obviously from a variety of schools within the surrounding areas.
It struck me that at that moment in time there was no hatred, no difference or thought about what colour or religion they were. They were all united in enjoying themselves and having fun.
If only as adults we could take a leaf out of their books and take a step back to see what a vile world we have created. If only these children could grow up into a world where they could live, work and play peacefully together. It may never happen, but at least they can have happy memories when they sat side by side at the Bradford panto, oblivious of the outside world – if only for a couple of hours.
