Grant is for archive

SIR – A story in the T&A (December 12) informed readers that South Square Centre had received a Heritage Lottery award in effect for nailing jelly to a wall.

While those of us at South Square saw this as a huge joke, the people of Thornton quite rightly did not, and so to put the record straight – the Heritage Lottery award is to establish a local history archive in conjunction with the local antiquarian society.

There is no foundation at all in the jelly nailing needing funding – just a hammer and a few nails. Simple!

Pete Lund, on behalf of South Square Centre, South Square, Thornton
