Sir – Keighley Town Council has known about the Queen’s Jubilee for more than two years and as usual, its financial planning for the event was ever-absent. If it needs to spend on another ego jolly then cut out the waste, which I believe is a disgrace.
As an irate Keighley ratepayer and former Keighley town councillor, another excuse for a rise in the precept, for whatever reason, is shameful to the long-suffering taxpayers The council has gambled ratepayers’ money on a civic centre knowing an economic catastrophe, the worst since the 1930s was about to hit the country.
If it were run as a private business it would be, in my view, closed down.
Shame on all those town councillors who vote for this extra tax David Samuels, Highcroft Gardens, Thwaites Brow, Keighley
