SIR – Like most sensible Bradfordians, I stayed away from the city centre on Saturday to avoid the hate-filled demonstration of the EDL.
However, from watching the news reporting, I saw the real threat that this influx of protesters from outside the city posed.
We have the police to thank for making sure that the violence was contained.
I would also like to say how grateful we should all be to Bradford Together who, as the name suggests, have managed to do what has eluded us as a city for a long time.
They have managed to unite faith groups, voluntary organisations, unions, political leaders and our own T&A in saying with one resounding voice that Bradford is a proud and now peaceful city which does not welcome people who threaten that peace.
I’m hoping that out of this we, as Bradfordians, have got a renewed sense of pride in ourselves and a conviction that only by working together can we make Bradford great. Well done Bradford!
