SIR – It’s disgusting that we were awarded the UNESCO City of Film when our council is treating the Odeon, an important piece of cinema history, in such a cavalier manner and very much against the wishes of many people who have to live here.
City of Destruction more like. With a refurbished Odeon, we would have had something to be proud of for the International Film Festival, and for the future.
How dare we invite people here to this neglected bomb-site? The Odeon is unique and should be treasured and not sacrificed by the Council to save Yorkshire Forward from looking foolish.
Yorkshire Forward, take note – this IS Yorkshire. You can’t fool us, we know what’s what.
We are losing our history because you are not up to the job. Simple market research would have saved your face.
Why did you refuse to sell it to a man who wanted to refurbish it?
Councillors, why have you given the final say on the site’s future to the planning department?
We did not vote for them. You’re in charge. Or are you? Once it’s gone it’s gone.
