SIR – They say the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away and so apparently does Alistair Darling (pictured). Last week I was informed that my state retirement pension (not all of it) would be increased from April 12 next.
This week I am informed that the income tax on my private pension will also be increased over the coming year thus effectively subsidising my state pension increase.
Blessed is the Chancellor of the Exchequer?
