SIR – A review of hospital food has been called for (T&A, February 5) by Councillor Doreen Lee, who alleges that patients in the district’s hospitals are being denied the chance to eat healthily due to the atrocious quality of the food.
While only Airedale Hospital is mentioned by name, Councillor Lee’s reference to “hospitals” implies that “atrocious quality” is endemic.
The food at the BRI, where I have been a patient for the last three weeks, always has vegetarian, halal and low-fat and low-calorie choices on offer, and is of a quality compliant with the most discerning tastes. I have not yet had a meal which I did not enjoy.
Councillor Lee’s contribution would have been more positive had she had the grace to applaud the standards at the larger unit, the BRI, and sought to determine why they are so good compared with her allegations of “atrocious standards” elsewhere.
John Pashley, Westcliffe Avenue, Baildon (pro tem Ward 22, BRI)
