SIR – When I was a child we were told that milk would make us big and strong, learning later it contained vitamin D, essential for the absorption of calcium to prevent rickets.
But now we are being told by the nanny state that milk is bad for us, which should put a smile on Lady Thatcher’s face as she made herself widely unpopular when, as Secretary of State for Education and Science in the Seventies, she abolished free milk for schoolchildren.
Of course, the same vitamin can be obtained from cod liver oil, but I can’t envisage any youngster pouring that on their cornflakes.
