SIR – A number of people have raised the question of trying to find new occupiers of the Odeon while it is in such a mess and with scare stories of asbestos being put about.

One Labour member complained at the last full Council meeting that they got no help when they were in power and were trying to do just that.

Excuse me, but if their idea of making a building attractive to potential buyers is to fill it with junk; half pull down partitions and generally make the place a mess, they should have handed the job to someone else and preferably control of the Council, too.

I challenge the current owners to clear all the rubbish out now – it will have to be done sooner or later, whatever happens to the building – and let us all see exactly what they want to destroy. I suspect the real merit of this building resides as much in its interior as its facade and towers.

And to the Labour member who thinks that the brick building has no place in Bradford: why is glass and steel more acceptable?
