Priceless prose

SIR – If you didn’t peruse David Barnett on Friday (T&A, June 26) you missed some witty observations about the shirtless males who roam our streets displaying physiques reminiscent of that of Charles Atlas prior to his body development course. It was amusing to learn that the author had in mind a more anatomical name for these misfits than the euphemism ‘spanner’, but knew it would be redacted by the editor.

However the article’s piece de resistance must surely have been as a source of embarrassment to any pseudo-macho, and I quote: “By taking your shirts off, all lads together, you can disguise your homo-erotic feelings for your pal as simple camaraderie.” Ouch!

Priceless, Mr Barnett, absolutely priceless.
