SIR – The fact that Tory councillor Anne Hawkesworth supports grouse shooting (T&A, September 29) should hardly be a surprise, after all, her leader ‘Dave’ Cameron reportedly enjoys nothing more that a spot of stag shooting at the weekends on his father-in-law’s estate.

I personally think that shooting animals for pleasure is quite disgusting. I wonder, should we debate instead whether to allow ‘councillor shooting’ on Ilkley Moor? I don’t think we’d get many protests against that!
