SIR – Can the campaign manager of Viva! explain what would happen to the 11,047 animals if we carnivores did not eat them?

Would they be kept and fed until the end of their natural lives by the kind farmer? No, of course not.

If there were no market for their meat – or if vegans had their way, for their milk, wool, skins for leather – they would just be slaughtered for no useful reason. The countryside would never be the same again.

Veggies and vegans, please wake up and employ your little grey cells more.
