Vegan future

SIR - On the understanding that vegans not only refuse to eat meat but also refuse to wear footwear made from leather and clothing of wool and do not drink milk, what would our countryside look like if we all became vegans, as requested by Heather Mills McCartney on the radio recently?

The odd cow, sheep and pig may be reared and kept as a pet but thousands would have to be slaughtered if their meat and other products could not be sold.

Think before you spout, Heather, and spend your own millions on animal welfare, about which I, as a meat eater, do care.
