SIR - Well, who would have thought it? Your correspondent, Mr D S Boyes, has another swipe at the Labour Party, though refreshingly not over Conservative policies and their effects when they are in Opposition (T&A, September 29).

This time for some of their members having attended public school, as if it wasn’t known already, alleging that some kind of gaffe had been made by the Labour MP for Ashfield, Gloria De Piero in mentioning it.

She, like most other Labour party members, also disagrees with their need to use the services of the private sector in educating their children and is unafraid to mention it.

As for the reciprocal naming of members of the Tory party in such a position, the limited word allowance does not permit and is better spent on highlighting the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s limited imagination as he took to the stage at the Conservative Party Conference days later, to announce prolonged, deeper cuts to the living standards of the poorest in society, those reliant on basic benefits through no fault of their own.

Now if DSB does not find that or the X-Factor entertaining enough, perhaps he should watch developments in the Newmark and Reckless show. Laugh? We nearly did!
