SIR - Jack Charlton quipped ‘I wasn’t a ‘good player, but I was very good at stopping others!’. This comes to mind when I try to make sense of the Bradford Bulls attitude to speedway.
Odsal was frequently referred to as the ‘Wembley’ of the North...one thing it does share with Wembley is the reality that Speedway contributed much to both but its history and contribution is almost entirely brushed away from either venue.
The way prospective Speedway promoter Tony Mole was treated made me embarrassed to be from this city.
Even more disrespectful to the memory of Aussie Rosenfeld and Joe Abbott, riders killed whilst competing at Odsal. And last week, it was 25 years since Erik Gundersen’s horrific crash at Odsal.
2015 brings the 30th anniversary of Gundersen winning the first of the two World Speedway Finals held in Bradford. Perhaps Mr Green would make an effort to study the history of the stadium, away from rugby, and realise Odsal really would be a grim place without the contribution Speedway made?
