SIR - “Landmark victory as CAMRA get retrospective planning permission for the Cock and Bottle on Barkerend Road quashed”, reported the T&A (September 26).
This pub is a listed building. For long-term maintenance, listed buildings need a purpose. Responsible conservationists including English Heritage recognise this.
Of the three pubs on Barkerend Road, two have shut. The Cock and Bottle is not likely to be a pub in the near future. Bradford is littered with listed buildings in decay which have not found a modern purpose.
Has CAMRA (which has done a great job for British beer) by refusing restaurant use for the Cock and Bottle, condemned this building to be added to the inner city decay on this street?
