SIR – On Saturday evening I was among the audience at a packed Alhambra to witness a splendid, top class variety show marking the theatre’s centenary.

It was a milestone event, and the show did it full justice. However, the small amount of space allocated in Monday’s T&A to Emma Clayton’s review of it must have disappointed the theatre, performers and audience alike.

This was a once-in-a-century event witnessed by nearly 2,000 delighted local people. Yet the same edition of the T&A devoted two full pages to Bradford City’s goalless match at Colchester which was attended by 460 Bantams fans. Is sport so much more important than theatre?

  • EDITOR’S NOTE: As a daily newspaper, we believe there is far more value for readers in the extensive coverage we give to events beforehand, informing as many people as possible of what will be happening and enabling them to buy tickets. There simply wasn’t more space available in Monday’s paper to report on this event but we did carry a more fulsome report on our website. We have, of course, devoted many, many pages to the Alhambra’s 100th anniversary already this year. All Bradford City matches, home or away, are covered in the same depth with a two-page match report. The 10,000 or so season ticket holders at City who can’t travel to away matches may well have had something to say about it had we dropped a page!
