SIR – You just simply couldn’t make it up. There was a report in T&A (September 19) about workers who controlled a fire in a factory in Liversedge until the fire brigade arrived.
But I feel it must have been a misprint as the fire crews arrived from Cleckheaton and Bingley.
I mean, can you imagine a fire engine coming from Bingley, through Saltaire, Canal Road, Wakefield Road, Tong Street, passing fire HQ at Birkenshaw, down to Cleckheaton, along Spen Valley?
If this wasn’t a misprint, then it is a total disgrace as there are stations at Odsal, Batley, Dewsbury and Mirfield, even Huddersfield is closer than Bingley.
What if life was in danger? Imagine being one of the workers waiting for an appliance to come from Bingley!
There would have been an ambulance on stand-by. Where did this come from, Oldham maybe, as it’s only just over the border?
Yes, I’m being sarcastic now, but a fire engine coming all that way from Bingley is ridiculous.
