SIR – With regard to the possible loss of public conveniences around the district (T&A, September 22), may I point out that there will likely be a rise in ‘anti-social’ behaviour as a result.

Namely, the public urinating in the street by some of the male members of society after a visit to the local pub... and before l am accused of being sexist, the girls do it, too, l know.

It was during the Middle Ages that folk dropped their pants any time, anywhere, to answer the call of nature, there being no alternative. Indeed, in many parts of the world this still happens today.

I had thought we had progressed. Perhaps not.

If we lose these public amenities l fear the stench of urine, or worse, will once again cling to every alley and clump of bushes, and Bradford will start to smell like a giant public toilet.
