SIR – I was upset to read in the T&A dated September 16 the suggestion that Belle Vue Boys’ School may be closed.

Both my sons went there in the 1970s just after it was ‘relegated’ from being a grammar school to a comprehensive and they have both prospered.

At the time many of the staff were ex-pupils and there was a terrific air of pride about the place.

I feel sorry for the current staff as they now have to deal with large classes and several different languages.

Perhaps everyone there should be given help in the current circumstances and a second chance to improve along with qualified advisors?
