SIR – Sally Clifford reports that over two thirds of child carers face bullying at school and don’t feel safe (T&A, September 15).

Well what’s going on there? Because aren’t schools supposed to be having big anti-bullying campaigns? I think schools need to make it their business to learn which pupils are carers and look out for them more.

These young carers are amazing they put heart and soul into caring for their families, often through the night, and after some snatched sleep it all begins again, with cooking cleaning, washing, giving more personal care, and maybe taking brothers and sisters to school, no wonder they’re exhausted by the time they get to their classes.

Child carers are keeping quiet about caring, I think they should be encouraged to share this with their school, rather than keeping quiet about caring. It’s only by letting others in and making others aware that the bullying can be turned into total respect from their peersfor these kids that are putting family first.

These kids are all heroes in my book, and schools need to get the message out there that being a bully is dated and a bit embarrassing.
