SIR – As a parent of four children, I can only give my deepest sympathies to Saliq Amjad Malik’s family after the horrific incident on Barkerend Road (T&A, September 15). So, so sad. And so young...
My other sadness is that this will happen to other parents as the seductive couplet of cars and speed continues to take its toll each day. I have been a bus driver for 15 years and the things I see from my cab window... well detail isn’t necessary.
I remember as clear as yesterday the first question our superb instructor asked of us as we commenced bus driver training: “What is the most important part of driving? The ability to stop!”
As even average cars get faster, the laws of gravity and energy stays the same... and too many drive as if their car is the WRC Citroen of rally maestro Sebastien Loeb, with aircraft-grade harness and roll cage.
What a waste of a human life. Tomorrow, or the next day will bring more grief. And all, so unnecessary.
