SIR – A month ago a resident of Thornton told me of the removal of stone slates from a building within the Thornton Conservation Area.
Both of us emailed Cllr Malcolm Sykes, a councillor for the Thornton and Allerton Ward, and despite him being away on holiday he immediately contacted the council’s planning enforcement team requesting action.
Subsequently the site has been visited by the planning enforcement officers.
Because transgressions such as the removal of stone slates in this case can lead to court cases, a legal process has to be followed by the council’s Planning Enforcement Officers, and this invariably takes longer than we would all wish.
I hope this assures Sonja McNally (T&A September 16) that the vigilance she suggested already exists.
