SIR – Are conservation areas still important or was it just an expensive exercise to define what and where they are?
Recently I drove through Thornton and noticed the Yorkshire stone roof slates on a roof in the village were being replaced by modern tiles.
At a house in Heaton the garden has been destroyed and well-established trees removed. Does the council take responsibility for monitoring what is going on in conservation areas?
After all it instigated that certain areas should be protected but that does not appear to be happening. I suggest the ward councillors open their eyes and take an active role in addressing these important issues now before conservation area are totally destroyed.
