SIR – Today, having tried fruitlessly to speak to a national company via the internet, and then been directed around in circles by their automated telephone line, I went to their store at Forster Square Retail Park.

A helpful sales assistant called Sue phoned on my behalf and we then shared the pain while she followed the robotic instructions in the hope of speaking to another human being.

Whilst we were waiting, a young Asian gentleman, with his small son and daughter, brought in a £10 note and handed it to Sue saying that they had found it just outside the store and that although it was unlikely that it would be reclaimed, it should be given to charity.

What a wonderful example this anonymous man set his children, I was extraordinarily cheered to have been a witness to this, and shortly after Sue got me sorted out too.

Not even the snarled up traffic on Canal Road could dent my good mood.

Thank you Sue, Thank you lovely gentleman, for giving me reasons to be cheerful.
