SIR — Much has been said regarding the radicalisation of Muslim youths and the threat to our nation by jihadists returning from the latest atrocities being committed in the Middle East.
Until every parent, cleric and Muslim leader publicly and loudly condemns their sons’ and daughters’ actions, we have little or no prospect of success. We should act ruthlessly to stop the preaching of hate by clerics and some politicians. Freedom of speech seems a very one-sided affair in our country.
One way of intercepting returning jihadists is for all countries to resurrect immediately the practise of passport stamping so at least we have a travel record which can be scrutinised. At present it is possible to travel almost anywhere in the world without a record.
There have been claims that increased border security would cause delays. If our politicians introduce profiling at our borders, these delays would be negligible and I am sure most of us would tolerate that in the interest of our country’s safety.
