SIR – In answer to John Hall’s letter (August 13), after the 1967 war which Israel won (having been attacked by neighbouring Arab states) Israel approached these with a view to a peace deal, but her overtures were met by a deafening silence.
Rather than leaving the conquered land fallow and waste, Israel gave notice that it would build on the land.
It is true that the UN has condemned this, not surprisingly as it tends to be Arab-dominated. However I agree that even if only to help the peace process along Israel might cease building on the disputed area.
