SIR – To avoid the essential gas work so disrupting road travel over Baildon Bridge, the train provides a convenient alternative. From Baildon station (pictured) to Shipley station the journey takes three minutes.
The train glides effortlessly over the packed lines of traffic on Otley Road. Passengers speedily overtake the fuming traffic snarl-up down the hill on Baildon Road. Emitting CO2 from static traffic is one of the least-useful ways of burning oil.
Baildon Friends of the Earth received 421 responses to a survey to support improving the bus service to Baildon station. We now are suggesting that the existing hourly 656 bus should become a half-hourly service timed to meet trains.
I ask for support in lobbying the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority and our MP. The 656 serves Lucy Hall, Collier Lane, Baildon town centre, Holden Lane and Baildon station.
John D Anderson, Convener of Baildon Friends of the Earth, Bramham Drive, Baildon
