SIR – The word “fiasco” is apt for most of the work being done on the pavement in Otley Road, Baildon.
Our city councillor Debbie Davies, who is pleased that Northern Gas are working weekends to accelerate completion, is evidently being “strung along” for today, Sunday, August 3, the site was deserted.
It is now much overdue that our council representatives should react to the anger of their constituents and surely it should be within the remit of Baildon Town Council to determine which Bradford Council official had the ultimate responsibility for acquiescing to the continuing massive disruption for an 11-week period.
The road belongs to us, not the gas board, and if they need to purloin it to improve service and enhance their profit, then they should be made to pay for it.
The gas board, through a judiciary process if necessary, must be made to pay in advance £4,000 per hour for a lane closure between 7am and 7pm on weekdays and £500 per hour at other times.
Time/cost would thus be a factor resulting in more efficient organisation and a considerably reduced period of disruption.
