SIR – It was really great to hear the news that long-serving Bradford Northern and Bulls supporter Charlie Ebbage has been honoured with the award of “life membership” of the club.

Charlie has been a stalwart at Odsal since he attended his first match in 1939. He went on to serve his beloved club in many different capacities.

He spent a long period on the club’s supporters committee and played a key role as a fundraiser, including raising the £8,000 needed for the installation of floodlights at the stadium in the 1970s.

Charlie also featured in Bradford Northern`s reserve grade during the 1960s and more recently assisted my late father, his old pal Trevor Foster, in the timekeeper’s box.

He is always very popular with players at the club lending a sympathetic ear and wise counsel. Many congratulations, Charlie!
