SIR - Robin Johnson totally misunderstands the import of my letter on the chances of David Ward being re-elected as MP for Bradford East.

I never mentioned the chances of Liberal Democrat Councillors in Eccleshill, Bolton & Undercliffe and Idle & Thackley in local elections in 2015.

I was merely making a correlation between the aggregate votes of the Liberal Democrats in the six wards that constitute Bradford East in 2010 and the situation in 2014 local elections.

Bradford East has six wards; Robin fails to mention Bradford Moor, Bowling & Barkerend and Little Horton.

The Lord Ashcroft poll of a couple of weeks ago showed that Labour has a 24 per cent lead over the Liberal Democrat standing in the constituency, which is why I said that David Ward was facing an uphill battle to hold on to his seat, a reasonable assumption to make given the figures.

David Ward voted for the imposition of the Bedroom Tax and for the establishment of Clinical Commissioning Groups; just two of his decisions that have had a deleterious effect on his constituents, so let him stand on his record.
