SIR - What terrible crimes have been committed by the governors of Laisterdyke and Carlton Bolling that cause Bradford Council leader David Green to call for them to be replaced by an unelected executive board?
Ofsted have declared Carlton Bolling’s educational standards to be “good”. David Ward MP says he would be “surprised” if the school was seen to be failing in terms of academic achievement.
They made special arrangements for pupils during Ramadan and allowed the school to close early in time for Friday prayers. Terrible. If this is religious extremism then the action of my grammar school in allowing Jewish pupils (but not me, though I was at that time an atheist) to be excused from attending Christian assembly set a dangerous precedent. Also, my school did not admit girls, so all our trips were unisex.
The real Trojan Horse attacking British schools comes not from the adherents of this or that faith, but those who fear any demonstration of educational difference or independence.
