SIR – How disgusted was I to read of Yorkshire folk wanting a share of the profits from the ‘Tour de France’ although they lived nowhere near the chosen route and contributed absolutely nothing.

Those who lived and worked along the route suffered a lot of disruption.

Some spent months decorating their premises, making and erecting buntings, planting flowers and catering to the needs of the thousands of visitors, stewarding and cleaning up afterwards, while some days not being allowed to take their cars onto the roads.

If they were to share their proceeds with those not involved, should not the profits go to the rest of Britain, plus the other 190 Nations showing the event and doing nothing.

How many of those complaining would work for months and then share their proceeds with those who did nothing but switch on their TV. This is a case of the workers being rewarded while those who contribute get nothing. I think that is just about right.
