SIR – In the T&A (April 16) you state that the wool from alpacas made Salts Mill prosperous.

Untrue. Alpaca have hair, like us, that is shorn twice a year. And it was Titus Salt who managed to devise a loom that could weave Alpaca hair.

Only sheep and goats have wool and from this we get lanolin for our soap.
