SIR – I completely agree with my friend Iain Morris (Letters, April 12) in his praise for Steven Anderson who has kept Saltaire streets clean since the year 2000. Congratulations Bradford Council for employing such a dedicated worker.
However, I disagree with Iain about Saltaire trees. People come to Saltaire for the Mill, the history, the architecture, the shops and the buzz of a regenerating village, not the canopy. I invite Iain to allow himself to be pushed in a wheelchair by my Salts Walks character (Rev David Cowan from 1877) along Victoria Road to experience what disabled visitors experience when attempting to access the delights of this World Heritage Site, courtesy of this arboreal mistake from the 1950s – huge horse chestnuts which still have plenty of growing yet to do.
What do you say, Iain?
