SIR – It could only be April 1 when the latest scaremongering from the climate change lobby dominates the news.

Because the findings of these so-called ‘experts’ are constantly modified for political effect – which is what it is really all about.

The point being, that unless the developed world abandons capitalism and industry, the use of oil, gas, electricity and everything else supposed to be bad for the planet can only continue to increase.

Drax Power Station now claims to be carbon-neutral by burning wood instead of coal. But wood makes more carbon emissions, and the material used is harvested in America, then transported 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean – all of which makes any carbon saving a fallacy.

Electric-powered cars may save on fossil fuel use, but the batteries they need are made with rare earth metals whose extraction causes enormous pollution, as does making the copper for the drive motors.

Climate change is like a new religion based on extreme beliefs creating fear of dire retribution unless you become a follower, as so many other faiths have done over the past centuries.

The irony being that the climate has changed for millions of years. It’s called nature – beyond the control of man.
