It is fantastic that Bradford is the site of a truly innovative gallery that is the first of its kind in the world.

The National Media Museum’s Life Online gallery is said to be the first dedicated to the internet and its ever-evolving history.

And that is an extremely prestigious feather in the city’s cap.

It is just another example of how Bradford is making huge strides to improve its image to the outside world.

The Media Museum itself is already recognised as a global attraction, and even the most ardent of nay-sayers could not deny that the opening of the City Park last weekend was a massive success and provided fantastic publicity.

So it is sad that crime has once again impacted on the steps forward being taken, with details of how a visitor was viciously mugged as he tried to find his way to his hotel coming out in court yesterday.

The years of hard work and expense ploughed in to try and cultivate the city’s image can be damaged very easily by thugs and criminals preying on those attracted in to see what the Bradford district has to offer.

More needs to be done to make our streets safe for visitors, and to then get the message across that our streets are safe.

This was a relatively isolated incident, though, and should not be allowed to overshadow the achievement of the National Media Museum.

Local children have already played their part by creating a piece of work as part of the Online Live exhibition.

This type of creative and forward-thinking development is exactly what Bradford needs and is a huge boost to the city’s image.
