The full effects of crime on its victims are not always immediately apparent.

Consider the impact of burglary, for example.

When someone suffers a break-in at their home, their immediate financial losses are relatively easy to calculate.

However, raiders can steal much more than just money and valuables – they can take their victim’s peace of mind too.

Those who have suffered a burglary can often feel that their home, somewhere they once viewed as a place of security, has been violated.

They feel vulnerable where once they felt safe.

The stresses following this sort of crime can easily come to dominate their lives, impacting not only on their happiness but also on their health.

That certainly seems to be what Brian Moore believes happened in the case of his brother Greg.

Indeed, he goes further. He thinks that a break-in contributed to the death of his brother.

Of course, we can never be certain, but it is obvious that Greg Moore was deeply affected by the crime and that his health deteriorated after it.

What we can be certain of is that he was a man who proudly served his community as a local councillor and it is tragic that he suffered such stress in his final months.

Our thoughts go out to his family.
