This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Bradford City fire disaster, in which 56 people died and many more were injured.
It was the club’s darkest hour, as anyone who knows anything about the Bantams and Bradford will be aware.
That, of course, includes those who played for the club and, in doing so, became legends.
So it is not surprising to find so many of them willing to turn out for a special match to raise money for the Burns Unit Appeal which was launched by the club and is backed by this newspaper.
The unit was set up in the aftermath of the blaze and carries out pioneering research into the treatment of burns but receives no public funding from the NHS.
The appeal aims to raise £100,000 to safeguard its future and has already received magnificent support from so many people.
After certain high-profile football players making headlines for all the wrong reasons, it is refreshing to see so many of Bradford City’s big names from the past come together and show them how true stars behave.
They are a credit to themselves, the club and the game and we are sure that fans, just like the players, will do their bit by supporting the event and help the appeal towards its target.
