There are some drivers – thankfully a very small minority – who lose all sense of proportion and self-control when they are involved in even trivial incidents with other road-users.

The result of this is the ugly, abhorrent and totally inexcusable behaviour known as road rage.

The latest example has apparently resulted in a very-visibly pregnant mother being attacked by a young man in front of her two-year-old son.

The 21-year-old victim explained that the incident happened after a driver “cut her up” at a mini roundabout and they both got out of their vehicles to remonstrate with each other.

In hindsight, she probably wishes she had not left her car to confront the man, but that she did is still wholly understandable. After all, she was presumably upset that his actions may have endangered her, her son and her unborn child.

What is unforgiveable, however, is the fact that the man punched her in the face before driving off.

Unfortunately, CCTV cameras in the area did not pick up the incident or his vehicle, and the police have drawn a blank with other lines of enquiry.

So unless and until new information is forthcoming, it appears that will be the end of the matter.

Hopefully, someone who saw what happened, or who knows the man involved, will come forward, otherwise it looks like he will have got away with a vicious and cowardly assault.
